It’s up and it’s good! After another dry week with a clear sky, evening sky watchers had a chance to see the waxing crescent moon in the western sky. Jeff Perkins captured this photo from the right angle through the up-rights. He sent this photo with the caption I wrote in the first line here, as the moon looked like a football going through the uprights. What makes this even better, it was on Tucker Field in Bel Air. Ravens fan will get the connection to kicker Justin Tucker even though he is not the namesake. Mr. Perkins got it, who also goes by @RavensJeff on Twitter.
So the big question this time of year is if we can continue this streak of weather through the weekend. Mid 80s to near 90F is well above average. Our temps will be up and good Saturday, then down, but still good Sunday. Only a slight chance of showers in between and early next week. See the maps below.
With daylight shrinking at close to 3 minutes per day, we average a loss of one degree from our high temperature every three days. Today’s average for Baltimore at BWI is 77F, and the end of the month in twelve days that drops down to 72F. That appears to be the range we are about to drop into, after two more warm days, dry days. It looks great for high school football games, The Maryland Wine Festival in Westminster, and the Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk Sunday in Towson (support my friend Natasha Belanger). On Sunday, the Ravens are on the road again in Oakland, but the Redskins will be at home hosting the Rams with temps back into the 70s.
The shift of winds from the southwest to northeast will cool us down and bring in some moisture from the Atlantic. An area of Low Pressure off of the Atlantic will drift north. This will have more of an impact from Ocean City to OBX next week, but still could bring in some showers for a few days.
