RadarDecember29December 29 2015: The rain this morning is breaking up faster than even the short rain models have shown and we escape with little impact from this massive and deadly US storm. That is the first good sign that things are changing as this makes 9 days in a row with rain in Baltimore. During that time, 3.50″ of rain has fallen. But as the rain pulls out this morning, one last push of warmer air will move in this afternoon. There is one more little rain maker that will pass just to our south, and this one will drag the cold air in our way… the game changer.

See last night’s rain timeline. This is ending a few hours early.

I understand that winter lovers are so hungry for snow, but I am not going there yet. The first step is the get the colder air in place. At this point, just getting temps back to normal will be an achievement, and help the local ski industry make snow.  That will happen, and if you are heading out for New Years Eve, you will notice it by then.  Here is a quick look.

GFS Model: Next round of rain passes south of Baltimore

As colder air arrives New Year’s Eve and Day, there will be snow showers/flurries in the mountains. A small chance flurries get into the western and northern distant suburbs of Baltimore.

Temperature Outlook:

Notice the 9 day outlook below showing 40s. That is for Baltimore and only the high temperature each day. Most of the days will be in the 30s. Here is a snapshot of January 1 in the evening…
