Record Heat Then Really Chilly This Weekend

Record Heat Then Really Chilly This Weekend

October 18 – Mid October is no stranger to warm temps, but we are in a time of the year when a surge up on the thermometer is often matched by a dramatic drop to follow quickly. That is what we will experience this week into the weekend. The next two days will challenge and likely set new record high temperatures in the middle 80s. However, a flip in the jet stream this weekend could hold afternoon temps in the 50s. Here is the quick version:

Jet Stream: Today and Wednesday allowing the warm air north

Cold Front: Chance of rain, but energy from this storm my pass just north Thursday and Friday

Jet Stream: This weekend dominated by an upper Low/pocket of colder air

Note: Monday produced an 83°F high at BWI, not a record but was slightly above the forecast. So temps could end up a few notches higher than what is shown on the maps below… Still safely in record territory.

Tuesday October 18:

Baltimore Record: 82°F set in 1945

Wednesday October 19

Record High 82°F set in 1947
