Wednesday December 26 2018

This day after Christmas will bring is seasonable weather for us, just chilly and quiet.  That may be good news for exchanging gifts or traveling back home. But if plans to hit the roads are on Friday, that is when we will have yet another storm bring us heavy rain. This may bring between 1 to 3 inches of rain that inevitably comes with the threat of flooding.

The next focus will be on Sunday for a follow up system that might bring some light snow or wintry mix. This is not a guarantee as we have some models keeping us dry, but something to pay attention to with a large number of travelers and the Ravens home game that may be impacted.

Morning Set Up

Temperatures

Widespread 20s inland away from the water has led to thick frost.

Our next storm will bring some severe weather into the Deep South and moderate snow to the northern plains. This will arrive with rain in the Mid Atlantic as soon as Thursday evening. The main event will be Friday.

Potential Wintry Mix Sunday?

The following event will be to the south, but many models have it missing us. Only the European and FV3 GFS models show this for us.  The only reason I am pushing this idea is that historically systems like this will tend to verify farther north, keeping us in play.

European Model

This shows mostly rain with a mix across central Maryland Sunday afternoon.

FV3 GFS

This is the most aggressive model. We have 5 days to track this event so don’t change your plans yet. Just want to show the potential to track this week.

Sunday Snow Animation

If this verifies, it would be a rain to mix and then rain event. Starting Sunday afternoon but warming overnight and ending Monday.

Snow Day Kit

Our ritual the night before a storm is finally in one kit. Maybe if more Maryland kids had this, the storm would reach us 🙂

  • This includes a very soft raglan Tee printed inside out with #FITF AND the check list,  #FITF spoon for under your pillow, ice cube tray with snowflake shapes, chalk, a #FITF wrist-band, a mini SnowStix, and a bag to carry it all in.
  • New Orders are likely to be delivered after the holiday.
  • This will also help us give a free Snow Day Kit to each of the Just In Power Kids.

FITF and SnowStix Stores are now OPEN
