July 30 Heat Brings Some Storm Into Tonight

Forecast

Tuesday July 30 2019

The heat has overachieved today. As of 3 PM, Baltimore’s BWI reported 97ºF on the thermometer. This is one degree from the record high set in 1940, and we could get it.  In the summer, normal high daily max temperatures are by 5 PM.

Look closely at these numbers: While there are many in the 90s, the cool spots are Ocean City in the lower 80s and McHenry and Cumberland cooled into the upper 60s and lower 70s following their recent rain showers.

Average High:  87ºF

Record High: 98ºF in 1940

Doppler Radar

This is also providing a lot of energy for storms, but the dynamics are keeping most of the tigger forces west in the mountains. We will have some showers and storms creek closer to some metro areas this evening and tonight.

Radar Simulation —> slider

This HRRR computer model is the most recently updated. It may not be capturing everything that is happening and could happen. This product is only an idea of how the cells will progress. But it does suggest activity getting closer to metro areas after sunset through midnight.

Movement of cells will be slow, or drifting to the northeast.

Chance of storms about 30%
