Wednesday November 13 2019
Over 100 new record low temperatures are expected across the country this morning. Checking the early conditions, BWI dropped to 23ºF at 6 AM. The record for this date was 22ºF set in 1911, so we could match it still. It is colder than that in the nearby suburbs and wind chills have most of our region feeling like the teens.
Morning Temperatures and Wind Chill at 6 AM
The cold air is dominating the eastern US today and it will feel like January. But with High Pressure, the winds will ease and drop to near calm later in the day. Then a slow moderation in our outlook. Also two weather systems that look time for now but need some attention.
Morning Weather Maps
The core of the cold air is in the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. This is under the dome of arctic High Pressure. So as that pivots our way this afternoon, it will be balanced by the afternoon sun and less wind.

NEW FITF GEAR THIS YEAR
- Thanks to Shannon (weather wife) who wanted to bring these hats to life. *Mustard is her favorite color
- The Maryland Hoodie is high quality and a new way to show off our love of Snow and State.
- The T-shirt… Something you may find familiar. Why just a T? Because many schools I visit have the heat on high for faculty and staff. But you can put a long sleeve underneath for cool look. I will have wifey model these soon 🙂
There will be some light moisture making a return north behind the Arctic High Pressure on Friday. This is expected to clip Delmarva, but with rain as temps will warm. I wanted to show this to track the model bias so far this season. There has been a trend for these southern systems to arrive a little sooner and track a little farther north.
There is also a chance for a coastal system to develop early next week. At this point it appears to be just a little to far to the east to affect all of us. But if the northern error continues, then we could get this to pull closer to us. Again, not a major deal but worth tracking for future trends. This also looks like it has warm enough air to be all rain.
