Tuesday July 7 2020
The storms yesterday lived up to expectations. Up to 6 inches fell in parts of Maryland just east of Baltimore. BWI officially had 1.40″ of rain, just missing the record for the date. Widespread reports of flooding and some large hail. Today we are still dealing with this boundary draped over our region wobbling back and forth. The result will keep the heat down a little, but with more humidity it will feel like the mid to upper 90s across central and southern Maryland.
Storms that develop today will once again be nearly stationary or drift slightly. It’s when they cloud tops grow over 40,ooo Ft that upper level winds can carry them. As we saw yesterday, these storms can lift in any direction, and outflow boundaries can converge and lead to some rotation. Slow moving storms will lead to more flooding.
Looking south, an organized Low Pressure in Georgia will move up the coast and bring more widespread rain later Thursday and Friday.

The storm activity may drop Wednesday and build back Thursday and Friday with Low Pressure moving up along the coast. The next reprieve should be at the end of the weekend.

My ‘bonus’ daughter made this map of Maryland a few years ago. We brought it back for needed positivity. Now on her pick of tanks, and this cool Maryland T for men or women.
